“Vision and Omen” by Hannah Hill

Event Details

Walnut Gallery presents “Vision and Omen”, a solo exhibition of new paintings by Hannah Hill.

In this series, Hill presents paintings that lift the veil on the artist’s unusual family history. In large works involving space and image narrative, Hill considers not only a life lived in the family of a small town prophet, but the imprint that such an heirloom legend leaves. Hill explores Southern acceptance of vision and omen, and reliance on an individual with a “direct line to God.” Eight large-scale oil paintings on translucent cotton shift from family lore to personal mythology.

Hannah Hill was born in Gadsden, Alabama in 1990. She studied at both the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore and the Burren College of Art in Ireland, graduating with a BFA in General Fine Arts and a minor in Creative Writing. Her art has been shown in the Vulcan Materials Gallery in Birmingham Alabama, Area 405 in Baltimore and in the Newtown Castle Gallery in Ballyvaughan Ireland and is included the private collection of Kevin Kavanagh Gallery in Dublin and the Timmons Collection in London. She currently lives and works in Gadsden.
